I (34F) fear I may be getting the ick from my husband (35M)
My husband and I have been together for about 4 years. Prior to my husband, I had been in a very long term relationship that ended on bad terms. I had experience dating men and women before my husband and I met and began dating, I guess I would consider myself bisexual but cared more about the person rather than their gender. I have noticed over the years that I am becoming less attracted to my husband. He was never in excellent shape when we met, but he has gained a considerable amount of weight in the past couple of years. Fitness is extremely important to me as I count steps, calories, etc but I understood that not everyone does that and I was okay with it. However, the weight gain bothers me. He looks physically unhealthy and now when we have sex, he always has a smell in his nether regions that can only be explained as musty. This along with other symptoms (snoring, out of breath, sedentary lifestyle) has really started to gross me out. I have mentioned several times that I’m concerned about his health and he says he understands and will try better. But he never actually does, he comes up with excuses to not go to the gym or go on walks. He will also eat an excess of calories every day in snack food.
The lack of attraction has caused me to have wandering eyes and thoughts, I have not acted on anything and don’t plan to. But it would be nice to have a partner that matches me not only physically, but longevity wise. He wants to have children but I worry about his health. I have found myself having a crush on a female friend recently, someone who is physically active and has a lot in common with me, honestly a lot more than my husband and I do. We have a great time together and have more fun doing things together than I do with my husband.
Something else is that my husband and I really don’t have much in common. As I mentioned, I began dating him not too long after a toxic relationship. I think I saw that he was a nice guy and I latched on. But realistically, if we were not married, we would not be friends. We don’t have shared friend groups, hobbies, etc. I honestly feel like we both have settled. We love each other but there’s no passion or excitement. He has only told me I’m beautiful a handful of times and has never once complimented my body that I work so hard for, which hurts. Are my husband and I just not compatible and I should consider ending the marriage before kids are involved or are these fixable issues? The fact that I’ve mentioned it several times but there’s been no change is dissuading me from thinking it can be fixed.
TLDR; my husband has gained weight and is overall aging badly due to his lack of effort. I’ve spoken to him about this several times and he hasn’t made a change. It’s giving me the ick and now that the physicality is gone, I’ve realized we don’t have much in common. My eyes and thoughts have been wandering but I’ve done nothing about it but I’m wondering if there’s someone better suited for me.
