I think the animation/model/texture improvements are deliberate

I think the shows increasingly good models, and textures are part of the world becoming more real as time goes on.

The thing that cemented the theory was in the last episode the flashback is closer to the animation and model style of the first episode, things are flatter in color theres not a ton of shadoes but later on the lighting improves the models improve in terms of quality and detail
