LG gram 13z980 randomly shuts off will not power on without teardown and reset battery

Hardware

A coworker like a year ago asked me to look at his personal laptop, after another had mentioned me after I fixed their laptop. This one is kind of bizarre it like out of nowhere will like shut off refuse to turn on again. I tried press power button for 30+ seconds with no charger, nothing. The Bios time seems right could not find a CMOS battery in the unit. Bios was pretty basic was no power save or anything like that, this has an 8th Gen I7 CPU. It first happened like a year or year and half ago, then he said was using it and it went to update and dead. I checked the power jack it was fine, after disconnect battery and connect it was fine.

Online some say it is some sort of static buildup on the motherboard and this is a protection, others say there is some reset button on some versions these but I saw no such thing, to me it sounded like this was an issue so a later version added a reset button but that still seems insane I have never seen any other vendor with issues like this. I can try and update BIOs but right now I don't have login info to do that and windows more recently has done that in updates.

I don't really have an answer but $~30 every few years to fix is still cheaper than a new one. I just hate not having an actual fix besides do this and tell them this is the only fix. Online info on this unit was not overly useful leading to anything exactly fixable short of maybe a windows or BIOS setting.
