How to Convince People to Finance? | Retail Furniture
I work for a large retail furniture store in the northeast. Our stats show that people who decide to finance have an 80% chance to close and have an average ticket of $3900 (as opposed to $1600 average ticket for people who use cash.)
We offer up to 60 months no interest, up to $25k in buying power ($10k credit lines are very common) and have 1 Main Lender, 1 Secondary Lender, and 2 Tertiary Lease-to-Own Lenders, so there are plenty of options for everyone.
At one of our finance training summits today, I realized how much money I'm leaving on the table. A $2300 difference in average ticket between cash and financing is pretty massive. I'm wondering how I could go about gracefully directing people towards utilizing our financing options. I mention it early and often so it gets into their brain as soon as possible, but a lot of people will brush it off and say "I'll just pay cash." One of a few reasons why cash tickets are lower is because cash out the door offers the highest discount.
Im pretty financially literate myself, so I can explain things in a clear way about why it's a good idea to finance and save your liquid cash and invest it while you pay a tiny monthly balance for the furniture, but I'm just wondering if there's any other tactics or ways to position financing so that people might gravitate towards it when they otherwise wouldn't have. In my opinion, interest free financing is genuinely a no brainer, and there's no early payout fees. I personally have no clue why anyone WOULDN'T do it (unless you're closing on a house or something) but I still find myself struggling to get people to bite on it.
