Dowloading New Leaf from the hshop is safe?

A while ago, I had AC-NL on an emulator on my phone. For the first week, everything worked fine, but after a while, when I started the game, after a few minutes, the screen would gradually go black until it was completely black (not to mention I lost my island, but I didn't play much, so it's okay). I don't know if it was some kind of anti-piracy measure, but I'm afraid the same thing might happen to my 3DS and that it could damage my console (I've had it since 2012, so if it breaks, I'd have a heart attack). Could someone who has downloaded the game from the hShop tell me if it works well and if it's safe? I'm thinking of downloading the amiibo version.
