I’d like to start designing/accruing a vintage charm bracelet for myself. I have one from my late mother, but she was a maximalist and it’s just dripping with charms (like 2-3 per link) and it’s not something I’d like to wear each day.

I’ll be doing the whole bracelet vintage/used and buying the charms over the next few years. I’m a mid 30s man and want all the charms and bracelet to be solid gold, likely 9ct because I don’t really desire a higher carat count.

The charms will obviously be reflections of my personality and I’d like to get some articulated (so heavier and bulkier). I’d like to do a charm for every second or third link so they’re spaced out and dainty - ish, like every charm is featured. My bracelet preferred size is between 20-23cm as I like them a little looser.

My question is, besides ensuring the links aren’t too thick for a conventional bail, is there anything else I should consider when sifting for the bracelet? Like, clasp style, weight, particular designs, etc?

It won’t be daily wear and I won’t be wearing it in any silly situations where the charms will be a liability (shower, beach, work, chores etc).

Just wondering before I start searching pawn shops and Etsy if there’s anything I should “know”.

Thanks everyone! ✨

Any tips for choosing a vintage solid gold bracelet for a charm bracelet?
