I’m looking for opinions on my gum health because I’m worried about gingivitis progressing to irreversible periodontal disease.

I was in orthodontic treatment from 2023 to 2025, and my gum issues seemed to start around the time I got braces. Since then, I’ve had periods where my gums seem irritated and inflamed. My symptoms are occasional bleeding when brushing and some sensitivity while brushing certain areas, but I don’t have pain when eating or sensitivity to cold drinks or foods.

I brush twice a day (sometimes more) and floss every night. I also occasionally smoke/vape socially with friends, but I’m not a regular smoker.

For background, I’ve only been to a general dentist about 3–4 times in my life. The reason I haven’t gone more often is that I primarily lived with my dad growing up, and he doesn’t like going to the dentist, so I wasn’t taken regularly. The only times I went were when my mom, who I didn’t live with, took me. The last time I saw a general dentist was during my sophomore year of high school, and the last dental professional I saw was my orthodontist in December 2025.

I’ve attached photos. I know nobody can diagnose me from pictures alone, but based on the photos and symptoms, do my gums look more consistent with gingivitis, periodontitis, or normal irritation? Do you see signs of recession or irreversible damage, and does this look like something that needs prompt treatment or a routine dental visit? I’d appreciate any honest opinions.
