First-time buyer - 2015 Corolla LE, 132k mi, $9,400. Good deal or am I missing something?
Never owned a car before, buying for a daily commute in Vegas. Found a 2015 Toyota Corolla LE and wanted a sanity check before I sign.
The car:
• 132k miles, clean title, no accidents (CARFAX), honest odometer
• 3 owners (started as a rental \~2 yrs, then 2 personal owners)
• $9.5k → $10.5k out-the-door (tax + \~$448 doc fees). CARFAX value is $11,430
• 2 open recalls (CVT + airbag) — free fix at Toyota, I’ll handle it
• New tires (one was a mismatched older one, dealer’s swapping it)
My one worry: On the test drive the brake pedal felt soft for the first half of travel and only firmed up low — needed a hard press to stop from 30-40 mph. Everything else (no CVT shudder, dash clean, AC, etc.) checked out. Getting a PPI before I sign.
Questions:
1. Is \~$10.7k out-the-door fair for this, or should I push lower?
2. How worried should I be about that soft brake pedal?
3. Anything about ex-rental Corollas of this era I should know?
First car, trying not to get burned. Appreciate any input 🙏
