When changing my last name after a marriage, can I use my passport if it isn’t updated?

This feels like a stupid question because obviously no but….. how about maybe yes?

Recently married, want to go on an Alaskan cruise. If I start the process now of changing my name with SS, can I still present my passport in August with my maiden name? What if I bring the letter from SS that I just changed my name?
