My Impressions of the True RGB Mini-LED TV Bravia 9 II
My Impressions of the True RGB Mini-LED TV (Bravia 9 II) at the Sony Store in Ginza
As a current Bravia 9 owner, I recently checked out the new Bravia 9 II at the Sony Store in Ginza. All I can say is that the leap forward is night and day.
And let's be clear: don’t even bother considering the Bravia 7 II. The gap between them is way, way, way too big. For me, the real debate is now strictly between the Bravia 9 II and high-end OLEDs. If you regularly watch in a completely pitch-black room and crave that flawless, ultra-glossy mirror finish, go with a high-end OLED. But if you want ultra-accurate, cinematic immersion, the Bravia 9 II is the definitive choice.
This is especially true for the 85-inch models (excluding the massive 112-inch). If you see those sizes in person, you’ll immediately understand what I mean—it feels exactly like watching a premium IMAX Laser projection.
On typical Mini-LED TVs, extreme brightness often washes out the colors, but on the Bravia 9 II, True RGB miniled make the colors remain incredibly vibrant. I genuinely believe Sony made the right call with their proprietary premium matte anti-reflective coating. It’s a masterful trade-off. Since Mini-LED black levels are never going to be completely absolute like OLED anyway, sacrificing a tiny bit of that perceived black depth to gain that authentic cinematic texture is completely worth it. It softens the aggressive, piercing glare of Mini-LED highlights into something beautifully gentle on the eyes. That specific texture is what makes this TV so special—it brings it so much closer to a commercial theater experience at home.
Make no mistake, the Bravia 9 II is the absolute final true Sony piece. Next time around, it's all getting handed over to TCL.
