Getting to know each other phase

How do ya all feel about this in terms of getting to know several ppl at a time?
For me I'm demisexual. I also tell the people I'm more interested in making a friendship and see where it goes from there. But some ppl seemed upset i get to know more than one person. But yeah for me it's not dating in first place. I mean ofc it's ppl i might find attractive but yeah it's just not real dating. I need mostly a year to decide if i like the person or not.
So what are your thoughts to that?
