10-year green card renewal with old NY E felony firearm possession conviction

A lawful permanent resident in NYC has a 10-year green card expiring soon. They have a New York E felony firearm possession conviction. It is not a CIMT or aggravated felony from what we understand, but they are nervous about filing I-90.

Is I-90 renewal likely to trigger an interview or immigration court referral, or is it usually just biometrics/card renewal? Looking for general experiences, not legal advice.
