Help buying a new/ refurbished apple product

Hello everyone! I was planning to buy a new apple ipad (M4, 11inch) until I heard of the Apple refurbished. I currently live in India but my sister lives in the States; so I also have of the option from ordering from their official refurbished store there.

I looked the refurbished website and the apple's website here in India and found out the following:

1. Ipad Air (M4, 11'', wifi, 256Gb) --> inr 69,900 ($730.85) (euro 628.49)

2. Ipad Air (M3, 11'',wifi, 512Gb) --> inr 68,767 ($719) (euro 618)

This is my first time buying an apple product and my family is saying that if we are investing such a substantial of money behind a product, better buy it new. They also have concerns over the quality of the 2nd hand product; saying what if it broke or has some other inherent flaws. In-short they do not trust the guys at the refurbished stores.

This is the reason that I am reaching out to you guys: what in your opinion should I do in this situation?

Thanks for reading my post
