I’m not sure why my access point is getting 100mbps when the switch supports gigabit speeds.
I have a ubiquity dream router 7 and a 7 lite access point. I just got a new 100 ft Ethernet cable and I’m not sure why it’s acting like this. If I plug the access point into port 1 on the router it shows I can get speeds up to 2.5Gbps. I have a switch plugged into port 4, it is a Reolink 8 port Poe switch and currently contains only a single Reolink rln-36 nvr. The nvr reports gigabit speeds and the switch is gigabit on all 8 ports and 2 uplink ports. However when I plug my access point into any port on the switch it reports “FE” which is fast Ethernet and limited to 100mbps. I have another identical switch that contains 8 cameras and every one is reporting gigabit.
I am not sure why if the switch is gigabit capable then why the access point is only getting 100mbps. I had a Lutron light controller plugged into port 7 on the switch however I unplugged it and unplugged the switch and plugged it back in to power. The Lutron is now on port 5 of the dream 7 and is reporting FE. It seems like the AP works at 2.5gbps, the cable is good as it reports 2.5gbps, if I plug another item into the same switch port it reports gigabit speeds but I’m not sure why the same AP is reporting FE on the switch.
Unfortunately I will have to figure this out as I only have 5 ports on my router and I have to push the access points to the switches to make room for more ports. I can plug the Lutron light controller back into the switches but I’m concerned if that will reduce the speed for all. I have 12 items I need to plug into my router and plan on getting 1 or 2 more access points in the future. There is only 1 Poe compatible port on the router and if I get AP2-3 it will have to be on a switch as all 8 ports are POE.
Thank you.
