How the fuck do I move from iPhone to Android? It's so confusing and all tutorials and guides do it differently
(English isn’t my first language, so I used AI to help me write this post)
I’m moving WhatsApp (~17 GB) from an iPhone 12 Pro Max to a Galaxy S26 Ultra and I’m genuinely confused.
The official WhatsApp guide basically says:
- On iPhone: Chats → Transfer chats → Android
- Install WhatsApp on the Android phone
- Verify the same number
- Scan the QR code
- Transfer starts
Sounds simple.
But then I watch YouTube tutorials and literally none of them do it that way.
Instead they:
- Start “Transfer chats to Android” on the iPhone
- Open Samsung Smart Switch
- Connect both phones with a cable
- Let Smart Switch search for data
- Select only WhatsApp
- Install WhatsApp through Smart Switch
- Scan QR codes
- Cancel screens
- Restart parts of the process
- Some even say “this is where most people get stuck” and tell you to press Cancel to make the Import Chats button appear
Why?
If WhatsApp already has a built-in transfer system, why is every Samsung tutorial involving Smart Switch and weird workarounds?
Has anyone here actually transferred WhatsApp from iPhone to an S26/S25/S24 recently by simply following the official WhatsApp instructions and nothing else?
Or is the official guide technically correct but in reality everyone ends up needing Smart Switch to get it working?
