We might be setting up for the biggest AI rugpull ever

Discussion

What’s the current market narrative?

Basically:

“Put everything into AI now or get left behind forever while humanity uploads itself into the matrix.”

And the second part is:

“Forget real estate, gold, land, cash, or anything tangible. The future is robots, robotaxis, satellite internet, AI girlfriends, and infinite data centers powered by magic.”

I think people are getting way too drunk on this story.

Don’t get me wrong LLMs are impressive. They save time, help with research, speed up work, and probably will lead to real breakthroughs in some fields.

But for the average person, most AI tools are still basically a smarter search engine, a writing assistant, or a productivity tool. Useful? Yes. Worth pricing every AI-adjacent company like it will own the future? I’m not so sure.

The stock market is starting to feel like a casino for people who insist they don’t gamble.

And the way the house usually wins is simple:
pull everyone in, make the trade feel “obvious,” then dump into the crowd.

I think we are absolutely in an AI bubble. Maybe a portion of the current narrative becomes real over the next decade, but not all of it. Not even close.

The biggest thing people ignore is the cost.

AI is not free magic. It needs chips, power, water, cooling, data centers, land, grid upgrades, and endless capex. The more advanced the systems get, the more insane the physical requirements become.

At some point, the cost of improving the models may start outweighing the benefit for a lot of use cases.

People talk like we are going to have fully autonomous robots everywhere in a few years. But the energy, compute, manufacturing, and infrastructure requirements for that are ridiculous. We are not just downloading sci-fi into reality overnight.

That’s why the “AI will replace everything instantly” crowd worries me.

Every bubble has a story that sounds unstoppable at the top.

Dot-com had the internet.
Housing had “real estate only goes up.”
Crypto had “new financial system.”
Now AI has “own this or be poor forever.”

Maybe AI really is one of the biggest technologies of our lifetime.

But that still does not mean every AI stock deserves an insane valuation.

Now you have regular people talking about selling assets to buy names that already went vertical. You have CNBC guests acting like buying mega-cap AI stocks today is the same as buying Google at the IPO.

That is exactly the kind of language that usually shows up late in a cycle.

Micron going from a normal cyclical memory stock to being treated like the second coming of NVDA in less than a year is wild. Maybe the HBM story is real. Maybe earnings keep growing. But the market is already acting like the future is guaranteed.

That is dangerous.

I’m not saying AI disappears. I’m saying the trade can still rug people even if the technology is real.

The internet was real in 2000 too.
A lot of the stocks were not.

So yeah, I think people need to be careful here. The AI story is powerful, but when everyone starts selling reality to buy a narrative, that is usually when the rug starts getting woven.

Not saying short everything. Just saying don’t be the last person buying the “easiest money of your lifetime” speech from someone already sitting on a 500% gain.
