Colonscopy bowel prep & BP meds
Good day everyone
I'm a 25M preparing for a colonyscopy but I'm having a couple of issues. So I've been given NaP based bowel prep satchets that I'll be taking from midday until 9PM. Now I understand why it's necessary and all but the thing is I'm on BP meds( bisoprolol(10mg) and Telmisartan/amlodpinine(40/5mg respectively)) and I've been concerned about any interactions or effects they could have on my electrolyte levels.
The gastroenterologist assures me it's fine, nothing will happen and there'll be no interactions but then I'm reading on the National Library of Medicine as well as FDA guidelines that taking them concurrently with such medications as ARBs can cause hypokalemia, arrhythmias and other issues which is rather worrying. I'm not ruling it out at all but I'm wondering if there are safer options that my gastroenterologist can explore.
I'm interested in knowing if there is anyone here who is on BP meds and has had bowel prep before, and if so, what are your experiences? Which sort were you given?
