Advice for potty training a 6 month old puppy trained to pee pads?
When I got my Goldendoodle in February (he was 3 months old at the time), I couldn’t take him outside right away because he needed his Parvo shots, plus I live in an apartment building with other dogs, so I made him a play pen area and set up a pee pad area. Even after his Parvo shots, the weather was gross and I’m a teacher, so I was gone 8 hours a day, so he continued on the pee pads. Now he’s trained to them, but it’s summer and I have 2 months of freedom, so I want to get him retrained to go outside. It’s day 2; I took him out at 4:30 this morning, nothing. Tried to feed him at 5:30 (he took 2 bites, but drank a lot of water) and took him out again around 6, nothing. I feel like after that first pee outside, he’ll catch on; he’s pretty smart. I did put a grass pad on top of his pee tray yesterday and he did poop and pee on it, so that seems promising. I’m also setting up his new crate to I can start crating him at night; I’m hoping that will help things too. Has anyone else been in a similar predicament and can offer advice?
