bought two different supplement gummies and now i'm more confused than before

So i'm standing in my kitchen holding two bottles i grabbed from Target last week — one's a sleep gummy with melatonin and ashwagandha, the other is some "daily wellness" thing with vitamin D and zinc. Both were like $18-22 each which already stings when you're paying Denver rent, and i honestly cannot figure out if either of them is doing anything or if i'm just paying for flavored sugar at this point. The serving sizes are totally different, the supplement facts panels look nothing alike, and one of them has like 8 ingredients i can't pronounce stacked under a "proprietary blend" which i know basically means they don't have to tell you how much of anything is actually in there.

I started looking into gummies specifically because i travel for work maybe twice a month and i hate dealing with pills and powder tubs in my carry-on. The gummies seem easier but i ordered a melatonin one off Amazon back in the summer and it showed up completley melted into one giant sticky blob because it sat on my porch in the heat for who knows how long. Total waste. So now i'm nervous about ordering anything that ships, but the local store selection is pretty limited and the prices are all over the place with no real way to compare what's actually a good value vs what's just nice packaging.

Has anyone figured out how to actually evaluate these things without a biochem degree? Like is there a rule of thumb for reading gummy labels, or do you just have to try stuff and hope for the best? i genuinely cannot tell if the ashwagandha one is helping me sleep or if i'm just tired because it's winter and it gets dark at like 4:30 here. Would really appreciate any input, ymmv obviously.
