Safest VPN that still works well for streaming?

I’ve used VPNs for years and mostly for streaming, other regions’ Netflix libraries, sports that aren’t available here, that kind of thing. I never once thought about whether the VPN itself was actually safe.

Then I read some threads about how certain VPNs keep, leak, or even sell user data, and it hit me that I’ve got this thing running all day. It’s not just Netflix going through it, it’s everyday browsing, checking email, working from home, all of it. So now I want something genuinely safe but also still good for streaming.

Went through a bunch of threads here and the names that kept coming up as both safe and solid were NordVPN, Surfshark, and X-VPN. NordVPN seems like the popular safe pick. Surfshark and X-VPN look cheaper and people say they’re decent for streaming. Apparently they’ve all passed some independent third party audit? Honestly I don’t really get what that audit involves or how much it means. Is that audit thing actually meaningful or just marketing?

Which of these is genuinely safe to run all day and also work for streaming? Real experiences appreciated.
