X5 Bottom Bolsters dig into thigh

Question :snoo_shrug:

Hello I just recently purchased an X5 50e with the multi contour seats. During the test drive I didn't notice the bar in the bottom seat side bolsters digging into my thighs. It wasn't until I took it on a 20-minute drive I noticed them and it started to hurt.

This is what I learned after talking to the dealer.

  • The multi contour seats have a metal rod in them or some type of metal support that non multi contour seats do not have.

  • If you are larger or have large thighs you end up sitting on them and compressing the leather, so it feels like you are sitting on the metal rods.

  • The dealer had me sit in the same model without multi contour and it felt like I was sitting in a lazy boy. Trading it back in I would take a 17k hit.

  • I am not complaining I bought it drove it off the lot so I understand it is my problem to deal with and trading it back in will lose me money. It would be cheaper for me to just swap the seat out entirely than trade it back in.

This is what I have tried.

  • Adjusting the seat a few dozen times. I found a position that takes some pressure off by extending the thigh support to just behind my knee and canting the seat down.

  • Placing a towel to "fill in the valley" this works because it lifts me up off the bars but looks sloppy.

This is what I have learned others have tried with success.

  • Having the bar removed and adding some padding back in where the bar was. Apparently, some car mod places do this a lot.
  • Bending the bar by placing a pillow on it to avoid damage and then stepping on it until it bends.
  • "Filling the valley" with a car seat cushion or towel. One guy even did a custom thing with an upholstery place to make sure it was a perfect fit.
  • Some people have said with time the bar bends on its own probably because it is not designed to be load bearing however the bolster ends up wearing thin due to sitting on the bar and or rips through the material.

Has anyone had a similar issue and come up with a solution? Please note I have read a lot of these posts, and I am not looking for "mine is perfect" or "lose weight." I am 5' 8" and 180 pounds. I sit with my legs spread and if I move my legs, so they are in between the rods, it crushes my man parts.
