Looking for brutally honest feedback on my Dark Fantasy/Dystopian world and story concept (Be as harsh as you need to be!)+ I am iraqi, so.. You get it, no hard English words
Soooooo...
I’m 17, and I’ve been sitting on a story/world concept that I wrote about a year ago. I haven't published or shared it anywhere yet due to a lack of confidence and just not knowing how to start. I’m looking for completely honest, unfiltered feedback—don't sugarcoat anything, I can handle harsh criticism!
My idea is currently a collection of short stories centered around an Enforcer named Thystatin. I want this to serve as a prequel to a massive, overarching saga.
The story takes place in Tain, a brutal, monster-infested desert continent. It is inhabited by the Thys, a dying race of giant humans who possess immense physical strength that transcends normal bodily limits along with humans who enslaved them since the Fall of Osolian age.
For a long time, Tain was ruled by a Human regime called "The Two Princes." However, after a long and bloody rebellion, the Kannin March—led by a former nomad named Kannin Fly—manages to overthrow the Princes. The Kannin March or legion as some call it is a global faction of revolutionaries who believe in liberating nations and unifying the world under a political/ideological utopia they call "Eden on Earth" (fueled by Kannin’s own past suffering and ideology built on hate, he is a good speaker who knows how to get hate out of everybody and a good fighter so..you see..someone lots of people will admirre). Tain is subsequently transformed into the "Tain Nature Reserve/Protectorate."
Before the fall of the regime, our protagonist, Thystatin, was a slave and a highly skilled gladiator under Prince Erian. He is sent on a high-stakes mission to escort The Princess of Kha'oun, An eastern kingdom, who traveled to warn Tain about the approaching Kannin March and offers aid, however..her luck was dull since apparently the Kannin March was in already, disguised a merc company called the fifth family. While Thystatin is away on this mission, Tain falls to the Legion. Essentially, he becomes a free man without even realizing it.
Following the war, the Legion establishes an internal police/bounty-hunting faction called The Enforcers to hunt down criminals and threats within their territories, especially after a massive war with the East. After a long chain of events, Thystatin manages to join them.
The first story I wrote follows Thystatin on a winter island, protecting a line of Eastern pilgrims (refugees/travelers from the recent war). His mission is to hunt down a rogue priest who is turning people into stone simply because they refuse to worship the sacred tree he guards.
What do you guys think of the premise, the themes, and the world-building? Any glaring plot holes or clichés I should avoid? Feel free to ask any questions if you're interested! Thanks in advance also, in the Iraqi subreddit, a lot of people asked me to list some characters so they have a better judgment, here it is in interested:
