keep dying at stronghold, have to get back to pick up all my enchanted diamond gear, what do i do??

i was going to my stronghold, carrying all my enchanted diamond gear, gold carrots etc, ready to get the elytra, but the stronghold generated annoyingly far underground (y -55). i fell down the shaft to it and died, respawning at world spawn. i got back there, threw an ender pearl down to avoid fall damaged, but clipped into a block and died AGAIN! what do i do now? ive got my render on 2 to keep the chunks unloaded, and i cannot lose my gear
