Accidentally joined a server where a friend who’s uncomfortable with me is already in. What should I do?
TL;DR: A friend with a fear of being stalked previously thought I was monitoring them. I distance myself but then unknowingly joined a server they're already in and now I'm worried they'll think I'm stalking them again. What should I do?
I had a friend who is very sensitive about being stalked. We recently had an argument and they felt like I was stalking them because I would frequently like their posts whenever we weren't talking in DMs. I wasn't intentionally monitoring them. I just happened to see their posts on my timeline. But I understood why it made them uncomfortable. I felt bad for triggering their fear so I told them I would mute them if that made them feel safer.
After that I gave them some space and started focusing more on work and making new friends instead of relying on one friendship. I hoped it might help them too.
Another day I was talking to a different friend and was told that they had a server. I asked to join since it's a community server related to our shared interests and also because I wanted to meet new people. This is also my first time joining a public server.
After joining I discovered that my first friend was already in the server. I genuinely had no idea they were there before and now I'm worried they'll think I joined because of them and see it as stalking again.
I'm not sure what to do. If I suddenly leave it feels rude to the other friend who owns the server. But if I stay I'm worried my friend might think I'm monitoring them even if I don't interact with them at all.
What should I do in this situation? Thank you so much for reading. I really need help
