Is this really how blepharitis feels?
TL;DR: is it really supposed to incapacitate you so much that you can’t drive in the sun or look at screens for too long?? Because thankfully what I do for work I can work at my own pace, but if I had an office job or something I’d be calling off for at least 1 whole week when a flare happens…
The long:
I finally got contacts again back at the end of March. Everything was fine and dandy aside from slight dryness at the end of the day taking them out, which always resolved overnight and I was fine in the morning.
Except for when my dog got sick. We found out on April 20th that he was severely anemic after an injury which required amputation. I cried all week until Friday when we had to put him down. I only wore my contacts one time that week after finding out what we had to do, and it was a good day, I didn’t cry, and my eyes were fine afterwards. That Friday the 24th we put him to sleep. I didn’t wear my contacts again until about Wednesday the 29th. When I woke up that Thursday. I put my contacts in. Everything was fine. Woke up that Friday and I had something I get once every few months, which I guess is a really dry eye that feels sandy and gritty, waters in the sun, and I can barely open it in the sun. Always just one eye when this happens. It cleared up the following day on May 1.
I started my fresh pair that day and was fine until Sunday. Sunday I noticed my right eye was a bit irritated, but nothing terrible. Continued wearing them, taking them out at night, only to wake up to both my eyes feeling sandy, gritty, sensitive to light. I couldn’t drive my son to school that day so he had to stay home.
I tried eye drops and nothing was helping. I finally made an eye appointment for May 12 after it didn’t ease up. I was diagnosed with blepharitis. I got prescribed steroid drops and xdemvy, also eyelid wipes, hypochlorus acid, and eye drops. I got the wipes, eye drops and hypochlorus acid right away and did that but had to wait a bit on the steroids and xdemvy. I finally got both of those late last week, but my eyes were feeling back to normal by then, so I didn’t start them.
So on June 1 I decide to try a new pair of contacts. Day one went great. Day two (yesterday), my eyelids were super itchy by the end of the day, and now I am up with the same grittiness and light sensitivity again. 😭
I’m calling my eye doctor today just to confirm the order for everything she prescribed so I can get it started now. But is it really this bad for everyone?? Idk how anyone can do anything when it’s like this. I can’t look outside currently, and I had to turn my screen brightness down and take multiple breaks just trying to type this out.
Am I cursed to never wear contacts again? I already bought a year supply 😭😭
