Police want us to bring our minor child into a jail for "booking"

Location: Iowa

Burner account for obvious reasons.

I was notified by a school resource officer that my minor child is being charged with two felonies and they want us to bring the child into the county jail for "booking". They said they would take fingerprints and gather other data. They said he would not be jailed.

I haven't been notified of anything in writing. There have been no court dates set. This is an issue we have been working with the school on and complying with school officials.

I have been trying to get a lawyer on our side to advise us, but this piece really broadsided me yesterday. Still working on finding someone. Officer wants me to bring my child in today. I have concerns that I am being bullied into doing it and I'm concerned about bringing my child anywhere without representation, let alone a literal jail.

Questions -

What are my child's rights concerning this?

Can I ask the officer to produce documentation before I do anything?

Can I ask the officer to wait until we have retained a lawyer before we do anything?

Thank you in advance for any advice.
