Abscess

Pretty sure I have an abscess. Does every abscess require medical attention, because I noticed after slamming it was pretty sore, but it's not very red yet, and how long should I wait to go to med express? Doesn't have to fill up to even drain, there's like nothing in there. And I put a warm compress on but made my arm hurt more and I think it made it worse.
