Deceased mother's medical collection debt (MD)
My mom passed a few weeks ago, and as I was following up on a checklist of things to do, I called the Register of Wills and they said that since she didn't have a will, and everything she owned was also in my (living) father's name, that I didn't need to deal with them.
I've been helping my father go through all the mail that had been accumulating while she was sick. I found a collection letter from 2024, I contacted them and found that it's still owed for a little over $1200 (didn't mention that she had passed). A brief online search seemed to imply that my father isn't actually on the hook for this debt, but I figured I would ask here. What steps should we take here?
Thanks.
