Question/story for y'all to see if anyone else has experienced this.
-
I had a hard brake line rupture while driving, the hard line from the union from soft line to hard , bracket at the steering knuckle, hard line to the front driver caliper.
-
replaced brake line
-
master cylinder completely ran dry when line ruptured, it was pissing everywhere. Refilled, and no fluid made it to the replaced line ( undid line and pushed brake, no fluid )
-
pulled master cylinder and saw plunger was fully compressed, could not get it to release
-
replaced master, bled and bled and bled and bled ( probably a good 10 reservoirs full) still spongey brake, top half was completely dead, got med firm about 1/2 was down, but would sink to the floor while holding
-
replaced cylinder a second time thinking possible bad cylinder out of the box
-
repeated step 5, same results
-
thought air had gotten into abs system. Attempted to make abs trigger to force air out. No improvement. Method used: put truck on jack stands on all 4 corners, remove wheels, 4HI, hit gas to get up to speed and slam brakes. I think since there was no weight on the axles, the brakes engaged without abs.
-
took it to a shop to hook to scan tool to manually engage abs system and have them bleed it ( not a dealership )
-
shop could not get pedal to firm up
-
shop recommends replacing master cylinder.
At this point I am at a total loss. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, what was the remedy you found?
