To binary trans woman: are afab nonbinary/nonbinary transmasc people often stepping on your toes? How?
I am a nonbinary person... i bind regularly, I have short hair but unfortunately very broad hips and round facial features that kinda make it hard for me to be read as anything but a masculine presenting woman which is also why I am thinking about starting T. I have such a weird relationship to womanhood and femininity. I enjoy some aspects like a femme style but in cishet spaces I am uncomfortable with presenting like that. I deeply hate all the experiences that I made with being fetishized, with sexual harrassment and violence, this pain to me is deeply tied to womanhood. Often I feel like gender is just an endless prison, the only escape are nonbinary spaces.
For a enby-trans festival I created a poster with a person that had breasts and a beard with a nonbinary pin, and they were standing in front of a trans flag. To me this felt empowering, someone fucking with the gender binary, someone who has a female body (like me) but who would get read as genderqueer by this society (unlike me who gets read as a woman every day) and who still gets to embrace femininity. The poster was approved by a bunch of enby people before being released (also one enby transfem). A trans woman online said this representation feels transmysogyistic bc of the beard, and I do see now why this representation hurts especially binary trans women (who deal with a lot of transphobia everyday) and if I were to create the poster again I would put the nonbinary flag in the background instead of the trans flag.
To binary trans woman: are afab nonbinary/nonbinary transmasc people often stepping on your toes? How? What should we avoid to become better allies to you while also truthfully engaging with our own gendered experiences & dreams? How do you view our different/yet maybe very similar relationships with womanhood and femininity?
