As a jeweler, these are the diamond shapes I'm seeing less and less in 2026

I have worked with thousands of engagement rings over the years. I have noticed some interesting shifts in what buyers are choosing in 2026.

1. Princess Cut

Princess cuts used to be really popular. For years they were one of the popular engagement ring choices.. Now more people are choosing engagement rings with elongated shapes like oval, radiant and elongated cushions. A big reason for this is that these shapes make the finger look longer and slimmer.

2. Heart Shape

Heart-shaped diamonds are really beautiful and romantic but they are hard to make

Even small mistakes are easy to see. The cut has to be very precise. They are also not the shape to wear every day, which is probably why I do not get many requests for heart-shaped diamonds anymore.

3. Asscher Cut

One of the requests I get is for the Asscher cut engagement ring.

Most people want engagement rings that sparkle a lot while Asscher cut engagement rings are different. They focus on how clear and symmetrical they're rather than how much they sparkle.

Something many people do not know is that step-cut diamonds like Asscher cut diamonds show imperfections easily because of their big facets. It is almost, like looking through a window. That means the quality of the cut and the clarity of the Asscher cut diamond become really important.

Trends always. Every engagement ring shape has its fans. But after helping thousands of clients choose engagement rings I have found that the best engagement ring shape is still the one that fits your lifestyle and personal taste.

I am curious to know what shape everyone here prefers for an engagement ring.
