Quirky movie possibly set in NYC that features a main character that looks like Hector Jimenez (Hispanic/big mouth)

Trying to remember the name of this movie that features a quirky (queer?) character who has larger than life dreams and is coming of age in NYC. He has a lisp and accent I think and looks a lot like Hector Jimenez, in fact I thought that was him, but I don’t see the movie in his filmography.
