My wife started writing her first book earlier this year. As part of building tools to help her, we added a feature that lets writers declare how much AI was involved in their manuscript. No AI, AI assisted for minor help like word suggestions or brainstorming, AI collaborative, or AI generated.

The idea was simple. Reviewers deserve to know what they're reading.

But here's what has happened. A lot of reviewers are declining to read any manuscript where any AI has been used at all. Even the most minor assistance.

And it has got us thinking hard about whether that's fair.

Because there is a real difference between someone using AI to generate a story and someone using AI to help find the right words for a story that is entirely their own. A writer with dyslexia. Someone writing in their second language. Someone who has a brilliant story to tell but struggles to articulate it.

Two questions for this community:

If you are a reviewer — would you review a manuscript where the writer used AI for minor assistance? Where do you draw the line?

If you are a writer — have you felt judged or excluded because you declared any AI involvement in your work?

Genuinely curious what this community thinks. No right or wrong answers.
