Puppy crate advice please
Hi everyone! We had a purebred Australian Shepherd for 11 years and we just lost her several weeks ago. We were already planning a transition puppy (another Australian Shepherd) before knew she was sick, so we decided to go through with it. She is 9 weeks today and we have had her for almost 2 weeks now. Puppy girl is a sweet baby, but not exactly breezy. We couldn’t get through the first night in a crate, so she ended up in our bed. I found advice to get a smaller airline type crate and have it on a table, flush with the bed. That worked! Daytime crate isn’t working though. She will typically only settle if I sit beside the crate until she falls asleep, so we haven’t done it a ton. She is up around 3 am to potty and then starts barking/whining to get out and start her day anywhere from 5-6:00 am. Does anyone have advice on routines or tips and tricks for crate training during the day? I hear so much about enforced naps, but I don’t see how this is possible when they won’t crate during the day. I tried Susan Garrett crate games, but she isn’t super food motivated, so it didn’t go great. I can try again, but not sure if anyone else can offer advice! Please help!
