Shift work vs on call

Been told this week by powers that be that my team (8 people) will be entering formal consultation to move from Mon-Fri 0800-1600, and on call outside of this to shift working. It won't be 24/7, but desired cover is to be 0800-2200 Mon-Sun and on call outside of that. Actual shift pattern tbc.

Has anybody had to make this move (officers or civilian)? Does anybody have any insights good or bad?

We'll be doing the formal consultation process so all the legal bits will be followed albeit only one of us is with UNISON.
