Large “affordable” collections are just cope for impatient people.
Im sure this one’s been done before, and I should start with the obligatory disclaimer that “affordable is relative,” and I’m referring to the SOTC posts consisting mainly of $200-$2000 watches.
I’ve never understood the 5, 7, 10 watch “affordable” collections. Do you really rotate through that many watches with regularity? Once my collection reaches 4 watches i start to feel…guilty? Wasteful?
I have no doubt that these people are serious collectors who appreciate watches, so I’d think they’d REALLY appreciate a finely crafted $5-10k Swiss watch.
If we applied the same logic to collecting anything else…idk…cars for arguments sake, we’d likely view the person with a few luxury or vintage cars as a collector, and someone with 5-10 Honda accords as…insane?
