Why do spiders choose where they make their webs?

Spring through summer where I live spiders are everywhere. But oddly, they often seem to make webs right in the middle of everything. Probably once a day I walk in a web either going through my front door, getting in my car, etc. The other day I went out for a couple hours and came back and there was a spider sitting in my sink with a web. We are clean people, we live in an old house so it just comes with the territory no matter how much we try to secure it from bugs.

Shouldn’t evolution have kicked in by now and they realize they should probably make a web in a nice dark corner? We have a perfect creepy basement they are more than welcome to, or even a far away corner in my bedroom, idc!

Is it something about shiny surfaces that draws them in? Only common denominator that I can think of between these common spider web filled places. Or is it we just have so many spiders in our home they’re strapped for space and have to risk it?
