Keep forgetting I'm fasting (in regards to quantity of meals and timing of eating; no problem with abstaining from certain kinds of food) -- how do I remember?

I'm not sure why this is. Eventually years ago after I lost enough weight through religious fasting I sort of let myself go and stopped.

I have no problem with abstinence and giving up certain kinds of food like meat; I never forget this on a day when I plan to do it.

But for some reason I am always forgetting to reduce to quantity of my meals, or not to snack between. Each year on the obligatory fasts of Ash Wednesday and Good Friday I struggle immensely; and so my spiritual director and I have thought it prudent to work myself up to fasting with at least the 1 meal and 2 smaller snacks. I try for Tuesday and Friday each week -- but yeah, I keep forgetting. Any tips? I'd think I'd remind myself during my formal sessions of prayer and reciting the canonical hours but it never comes up and when night comes I'm like "What the heck, I forgot again."

Is it just because it's too lax that I don't notice? Should I just straight up not eat anything from breakfast to dinner and make it more rigorous and allow no room between those two periods?
