Season 8 question- vague because of spoilers

We came to Death in Paradise late and have been binging it for the last few weeks. Great show, comfort TV at its finest. Except we’ve just hit season 8 and honestly Ruby is making it hard to watch. She’s just so annoying, not funny annoying, which would be OK. She’s like a caricature of an over the top kids tv presenter but without the charm.

Can someone tell me it gets better, ideally with Dwayne coming back?

Just about ready to give up, give me a reason to persevere?
