What do people do on Reddit besides talk about politics?

Hi, person here. I just made a Reddit account a few days ago and WOW are people political on here. This subreddit is a hot zone!

The question I have has to do with politics and people talking about it online. I won't say how I lean because honestly it's a stupid metric to bring up and to judge other people with because people are more in depth than that.

What I want to know though is what people do on Reddit besides political talk. It's just endless complaining. I mean, what are you realistically going to do? A president is going to be picked every 4 years regardless and if he dies then the vice president becomes president and so on or someone else gets picked, so why get so worked up about it? You can't do anything.

My family grills and we all do family fishing or we make food together. Every moment is precious and none of it is wasted. None of us don't even care who the president is or anyone because it doesn't matter. What matters is family, friends and memories together. Our customs and traditions are important too.

I have a friend and I feel bad for him because his parents watch the news all day and they're scared and angry about the world but why be that way? We're all going to die so why worry yourselves about pointless bullshit? Live a little. Get out, smell the air, don't care about what you can't control.

I just don't get it. Maybe it's because I'm Japanese-American and I just grew up a different way but one sure way to the grave early is by getting yourself angry or sad at something that you can't change. This is a fundamental Buddhist teaching.

Do people not understand this or something? I know not everyone is Buddhist but it's still common sense to not become so worked up. In Japan, political talk is inappropriate but here in the states it seems like everyone talks about it. I just so happened to find a site where politics seems to be the central conversation all of the time. Are other social media sites like this? Reddit is all that I have. I've always avoided social media because I found no interest in online stuff but I only recently got a laptop too so... Yeah...

Maybe give me some understanding? I'm 27. I've been sheltered all my life. This is stressful though looking at all of this. Trump this, Trump that, etc. I don't like it.
