How often do you have functional ovarian cysts rupture?

Hi all,

I personally have experienced cyst ruptures since I was 14 and I have at least 2 happen every year. I have never been to the ER for them. Until last night they have only ever ruptured during sex or after. The past week I’ve felt a cyst on my right ovary (they are always on that side) and the pressure kept getting more and more. I was worried it was going to rupture with a certain movement or when going to the bathroom. Well I woke up last night with a full bladder and went pee, which caused it to rupture. I’m a little worried since this is the first time it’s happened on its own.

When I was 17 I went to a gynecologist to talk about the pain I was having (rupturing) and all the doctor did was insult me for having unprotected sex with my long term boyfriend and demanded me to go on birth control. Well I didn’t go back after that.

Fast forward to 21, I get my first job with health insurance and have Kaiser. At this point my cyst rupturing was almost non existent so I didn’t even think to tell my gynecologist. I had one appointment before quitting my job to go back to school and didn’t do follow up appointments because I didn’t have kaiser anymore. I also couldn’t afford appointments at this time because I was a full time broke college student.

I now have another job where I have Kaiser again. It is so hard to get an appointment with a gynecologist. The appointments are usually 4 months out. I have an appointment at the end of July. However the past few months my cycles have been about 40 days, before they were pretty regular between 29-33. And I have noticed more ovulation pain than usual.

I guess I’d like to know if anyone has reoccurring cysts that make your cycle longer? And also how to advocate for myself at my upcoming gynecologist appointment. Should I ask for certain testing? Ultrasound?
