Is this doctors office experience anything?
After going to one doctor for a herniated disc, I was referred to another office seeking surgery. After getting an MRI, the NP says, basically, “your disc is so mild that the doctors won’t operate on it.” The NP says they’ll recommend pain management, but I cannot be on steroids due to other medical reasons. Despite this, I want to see the pain management doctor because there must be some other option. I’d like to speak with the specialist who is there in that particular field and may know about alternative solutions. The NP does not refer me to them and is adamant that there is nothing they can do for me, despite there being other options when I research online.
This was my second visit with that NP. At the first visit, she was very dismissive and seemed like she wanted to be literally anywhere else than in that room with me answering mine and my mom’s questions. It seemed like all she wanted to do was get an MRI scheduled and talk to me after. Following that appointment, the office had sent me a survey, and I submitted it honestly without naming anyone. I have no way to know whether or not that remained anonymous or anything like that.
I don’t know if it’s anything. I feel very concerned that I wasn’t able to get care through that practice after being referred there. The pain is real and debilitating and needs a solution, but surgery was denied and I wasn’t given the opportunity to have a consultation with pain management. After nearly 2 years of this pain with this disc, my orthopedic doctor recognized that surgery was the next step. Now there are no steps
