CPU temperatures running high, need help
So I bought a prebuilt from NZXT back in late 2020. I believe it was called the “Streaming PC”, but I’m not sure as they no longer have it listed on their site. At the time, much like now, I knew little to nothing about PC gaming, I simply bought one because my friends did.
Anyway, lately during my gaming sessions, after playing for a little while, I would notice a severe drop in performance and couldn’t really understand why. At first I thought it was my RAM, but when looking closer at NZXT CAM, I realized that my CPU temps were high, even just sitting at my desktop with nothing open. Yesterday I dusted and cleaned out the inside of everything, and now that I’m aware of its’ existence, a couple hours ago I cleaned off the old thermal paste, and applied a new paste. I figured this would likely help, at least until I explored other cooling options.
I turned on my PC, and at first it looked promising… cpu temp went down into the 50s, but then quickly shot up. (Seems like now it is hovering between 60-70 degrees at idle)
I opened a game from my steam library to see what would happen, and the cpu temp went up to 96, where it stayed until I closed the game and turned off my pc. Some quick google searches say since I applied new paste and am still having issues, it would be on the hardware side (perhaps a failed pump?)
Not sure what to do next, would love some tips or potential solutions. Thank you in advance and let me know if I can provide any more details. All parts are stock as I have never made any upgrades.
TLDR - CPU temps are 60-70 at idle and above 90 with a game open, even after cleaning out/dusting and applying new thermal paste. Game runs fine even at high temperatures, at least for awhile, then performance dips drastically.
Specs:
CPU - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
GPU - NVIDIA RTX 2070 super (8GB)
RAM - 16 GB DDR4
Cooler - I’m not entirely sure, but I think it may be the NZXT Kraken 120
Stock case.
