Simple Beginner starts? I Struggled with UK.

I've done a few UK runs to learn the prewar mechanics.

But i ended up sending all my british land divisions to the france germany front line and got smoked.

Anyone got any tips for not destroying the uk 90 years early or for some relatively safe, heavily land focused nations so i can get to grips with the mechanics.
