The collector is so overrated

Discussion

Here are my gripes with it right now

1-It's easy to spot in the dark because of it's glowing head, so there's zero "Where did it go!?" panic moments, not to mention that huge roar shockwave that makes it very obvious that it's spotted you and is pursuing you

2-It is super easy to get past. In fact, here's a tutorial on how to get past it nearly 100% of the time without any problems. Step one, make sure you're in a tadpole, either base or scout ray, it works with the haul chasis too but it's a lot riskier. Step 2 two, set a beacon for the spot you wanna go to. Step 3, B line it to that beacon and completely forget the collector exists. Congratulations, your did it, ged jub. That is literally all there is to it, it's the easiest shit imaginable. Even if it throws you, recentering yourself isn't hard, and even if it takes you a second, you'll get hit twice at most, and if your tadpole is at full health, you can tank that.

3-The music also ruins it. It's creepy the first time, that's it. But after that, it just becomes this annoying alarm bell that "hey, big guy is getting close! Better skidaddle". I personally turned the music off just because of this, but that also means that I'm missing out on the rest of the music in favor of making the game more scary and immersive. Honestly I might just turn it back on though, because even with it off, dj octavio over here is still about as scary as a disabled puppy

4-The pda calls it a deep sea creature, and you find it like 100 meters deep. It would have been such a cool creature to have in a SUPER deep part of the map that is really dark and has obstacles that both it and you can hide behind so there's more of a scary hide and seek "where'd he go?" element. Something that actually makes the game scary and engaging and not just "blaze past him like he doesn't exist, because he may as well not". Also I know someone will probably mention it, but I'm aware that the PDA in this game isn't as trustworthy as the one in the OG game, but I'm still rolling with what it says about the collector here

5-The first one barely has a reason to exist since you can just blaze past it. The second one literally has zero reason to exist once you realize that as long as you don't actively go towards it, it will literally never attack you. It's so high up in the water that all it will ever do is swim above you menacingly and never agro, except once you realize that's all it does, it's not even menacing anymore. The Epicurean are scarier honestly just from a design standpoint

I hope this gets changed down the line, I know the game has a long road ahead of it, but it's flagship leviathan is honestly a monumental flop for me right now. It looks kinda cool, that's the only praise I can give it right now
