Transmission fluid change on 3rd gen tacoma

Hello taco fam, yesterday i did my transmission fluid. I drained out almost 3 quarts and filled it up a little over 3.5 quarts. I did the temp check and everything and a little over 1 quart came out of the overflow. Is this normal? I followed all the procedures. The D was on solid. Thanks fam
