Crown days and SRP days. How is this not insurance fraud?
I am currently working for a mega giant DSO (rhymes with Dartland), but this is not unique to this DSO. I used to work for Aspen and they did the same thing.
They present the treatment plans diagnosed, but offer the patient an incentive to get their crowns or SRPs done on a specific day that month. Essentially they promise the patient $200 off out of pocket for crowns or $50 off of SRPs.
As a provider these type of “car sales” techniques really bother me, and I believe it is fueling the race to the bottom. But I am worried and wondering if it is opening me up to liability for insurance fraud due to not honoring the contracted rates for covered services.
Is there anyone with experience with this practice who knows the legal loophole it threads? Thanks!
Also I know everyone is going to say to “start my own practice”, I am on the active hunt for a purchase after relocating states, with a deadline to begin a startup if no fits are found. I just want to limit my exposure until my exit.
