I’m hoping someone can help identify the age, origin, and possible value of this large Dutch folk-art themed wall hanging.
The piece has been in my family for decades. My grandmother was born in 1937 and recalls receiving it when she was around six years old, which would place family ownership around 1943. The piece itself may be older.
It features:
A large dark wood frame with Arts & Crafts / Mission-style influences
Three panels depicting children in traditional Dutch clothing and wooden clogs
A decorative procession frieze across the top showing Dutch children, sailboats, and windmills
Small metal embellishments near the lower left corner
Original paper backing and handwritten inscriptions on the reverse
The writing on the back appears to read something similar to:
“Mr. Everette Maxwell”
“Los Angeles, California”
There is also what appears to be another address that may read:
“513 Sec Ave. S., Seattle, Wn.”
although I am not certain of the exact wording.
The overall dimensions are approximately 47" L x 26.5" H x 1.5" W and it weighs about 14.6 lbs
I am trying to determine:
The approximate age of the piece
Whether it was commercially produced or handmade
Whether the artwork is from a known artist, publisher, or workshop
The meaning of the handwritten inscriptions on the back
A realistic current market value
Any information, comparable examples, or leads would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
