Chesscom Rating Deflation Laid Bare

News/Events

You hear people all the time complaining about ratings deflation being a big problem, and equally as often you'll see the ignorant crowd swooping in with 'there's no such thing as errors in maths ' or 'just get good scrub' to try and down vote them. The truth is it is a huge ongoing issue that has been getting worse day by day and the top players living in their little protected inflationary bubble do not see what 99.9% of the rest of the site sees and so I shall demonstrate it with hard statistics - this distribution represents the ratings of every player on the whole site in blitz and rapid formats, and it's clear to see that 90% are significantly stuck under 1000, with an average rating below 600, when prior to the pandemic the average site rating was around 1200 , a huge discrepancy
