Post-op ureteroscopy/stent symptoms normal?
Yesterday I had a ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy for an 8x4 mm distal right ureter stone that had been causing mild hydronephrosis. The surgeon was able to fragment the stone with a laser and remove the pieces with a basket. The operative note says the ureter was clear of fragments at the end, but there was edema, mucosal irritation, and scarring where the stone had been impacted. A 6F x 26 cm double-J stent with a string was placed and I'm supposed to remove it at home after 4 days.
Since surgery I've been experiencing:
Burning when I urinate
Constant urge to pee
Feeling like I need to have a bowel movement
Blood in the urine
A few small clots
Sharp "cutting" pain in part of my urethra
Kidney/flank cramping when I pee
Chills/off-and-on feeling cold (no fever)
One thing that caught my attention in the operative report was that the surgeon fragmented the stone and then used a basket to grasp the fragments and drop them into the bladder. They didn't mention removing fragments from the bladder, only that the ureter was clear at the end.
My questions:
Are these symptoms typical for day 1-2 after ureteroscopy with a stent?
Did anyone else have kidney cramping during urination from the stent?
Is it common for surgeons to leave small stone fragments in the bladder to pass naturally?
How bad was stent removal with the string for you?
Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through something similar.
